Pilot Demonstrator 2 focuses on improving the resilience and safety of European port infrastructures by addressing one of their most critical challenges: corrosion. Over time, steel and concrete structures in ports are exposed to harsh marine conditions that can lead to damage, reduced capacity, and costly maintenance.
PD2 develops and tests an innovative monitoring and management system that uses sensors, data analysis, and digital tools to detect and predict corrosion before it becomes critical. This system allows port authorities to plan maintenance more efficiently, reduce downtime, and extend the lifespan of their assets while lowering environmental impacts.
Demonstrations will take place at the Ports of Antwerp and Zeebrugge, where the technology will be tested under real conditions and integrated into existing port management systems. By combining practical testing with advanced modelling, PD2 aims to provide a scalable solution that can be replicated across other European ports, contributing to more sustainable and climate-resilient maritime operations.
