This pilot project, centered on Rotterdam, focuses on the “Multimodal Hinterland Resilience Model” (MHRM), addressing the need for adaptable transport infrastructure that can switch between modes—such as from inland waterways to road—in response to severe weather events. This adaptability is crucial for maintaining a continuous flow of logistics, especially under adverse conditions.
The article outlines CLARION’s methodology, which includes ten pilot projects across various European ports (Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, and Constanta). These pilots will undergo extensive research and testing phases to refine resilience tools and strategies, with findings expected to be shared in the project’s final year. The MHRM specifically leverages the RA2CE-tool, a resilience assessment model that aids infrastructure managers in identifying critical areas and developing mitigation strategies. This model ensures that goods can be reliably transported, even in the face of potential future climate challenges.
