We are proud to announce that Research Driven Solutions (RDS), partner of CLARION Project, presented a pioneering research paper at the IAME Conference 2025. The event took place on June 25th and brought together experts in maritime economics and infrastructure innovation.
The paper is titled: “Optimizing Quay Wall Design Using Digital Twin Technology and Bayesian Updating.”
It introduces a new method for designing quay walls, which are essential structures for modern ports. Traditionally, these walls are designed using conservative estimates about the ground conditions. However, this often leads to overuse of materials and higher costs. The study proposes a smarter solution. By using digital twin technology, engineers can build a virtual model of the quay wall. With sensor data and Bayesian updating, the model can refine its understanding of the soil conditions in real time—even in areas without direct testing.
As a result, port authorities can make better decisions. They can reduce material use, save money, and design infrastructure that is more resilient to climate change. Moreover, the method supports long-term sustainability goals by minimizing environmental impact. This innovation aligns perfectly with CLARION’s mission: building efficient, adaptive, and climate-resilient infrastructure for the ports of tomorrow.
