Thessaloniki, 8–9 May 2025 – The CLARION Project took center stage at this year’s prestigious ESPO Conference 2025, hosted in Thessaloniki, Greece. In a dedicated session, Caya Hein, Project Leader at AIVP, shared insights from both SAFARI and CLARION, focusing on their contributions toward the creation of a Green Port Masterplan tailored for European ports.
The session emphasized collaborative synergy among EU-funded projects. Inge de Wolf, representing the Port of Antwerp-Bruges and actively involved in both CLARION and PIONEERS, highlighted the importance of cross-project knowledge sharing. Notably, the MAGPIE and PIONEERS projects are each developing decarbonisation masterplans for ports and aim to merge their outcomes into a unified strategy, underscoring the need for joint approaches in the green transition of European port infrastructure.
An interactive workshop allowed participants—European port stakeholders—to provide direct feedback on the proposed masterplans. Discussions revolved around what aspects resonated well, what elements required refinement, and the real-world expectations and challenges ports are currently facing in their decarbonisation journeys.
Participation in events like the ESPO Conference is vital for the CLARION Project. It provides a platform to disseminate innovative outcomes, foster strategic partnerships, and ensure the project’s work aligns with the actual needs and ambitions of European ports striving for a sustainable future.
